Excursion: Dutch historie of Water and Air: Bataviawerf & Aviodrome
Bataviawerf, a unique experience!
Take a ride to the Batavia site in Lelystad and feel what it's like to be on a VOC ship, a unique experience! Since 1985, the year that began with the construction of the Batavia, to date, this cultural icon of Flevoland is an attraction for young and old. On board the Batavia you experience the seaman life and the site revives in the 17th century with the various crafts. Also impressive is the open construction of the 7 Provinces of Sea Army Michiel de Ruyter.
The 17th century comes to life
More than 250 passionate volunteers are ready to take the guests into the shipbuilding world of the Golden Age. In the various workshops, the old crafts come alive. The smell of the smith coal fire entices guests to put their hands out of the sleeves themselves. But also making a rope or learning a real ship’s knot is one of the possibilities. Impressive are the sailing and modeling industry, and in the carvings it seems that craft becomes art.
Experience the Schiphol in the 1930’s
At Aviodrome you can of course discover all the sights, but there are guided tours given by our pilots every day, with a lot of interesting and fun facts about the planes, but especially taken by their enthusiastic and beautiful stories. Guided tours are given both in the indoor exhibition and in the outdoor exhibition. Aviodrome’s staff tells you in a fascinating way everything you need to know about the planes and aviation of then and now.
Just as beautiful inside as outside
Weather or no weather: Aviodrome is always fun! In a bad weather, explore the indoor exhibit with a tour, visit the 4D movie theater or take a seat in the cockpit.
