On May 17 Frederike Schweers, EVP Community and Gregor Neggers, Director Partnerships, had a meeting with Bernard Wientjes to talk about the Global Goals for Sustainable Development and the JCI World Congress in Amsterdam.
During this meeting Bernard Wientjes committed to be an ambassador for this world-class event and emphasized this by expressing: “This is important for the Netherlands”.
Bernard Wientjes (Amsterdam, May 19, 1943) is a Dutch entrepreneur and director. Until July 1, 2014 he was president of the employers’ organization VNO-NCW. Currently he is engaged in his role as a professor at the University of Utrecht. Beside he has numerous extra activities and is member of some supervisory boards.
Wientjes followed the Ignatius Gymnasium in Amsterdam and studied Dutch law in the same city. After his study he started working at a bank, however shortly after, his sick father asked him to join the family business Ucosan. When his father died Wientjes took over the company. In 1967 he founded Wientjes Beheer BV in Roden and he stayed director and owner until 1999. In 1999 Ucosan was purchased by Villeroy & Boch and Wientjes became member of the Management Board.
At the time he was president of VNO -NCW, Wientjes was 4 times in a row regarded as the most influential Dutchman.
